Uneasy is the Head that Wears the Crown (with Scepter)
An oversized crown displayed on a velvet tufted skirted pillow. Created in 2023 as a response to the coronation of King Charles lll. My mother was born and raised in England and I grew up in a British household where we were exposed to all the pomp and circumstance of coronations, and royal weddings. I have mixed feelings about the monarchy and wanted to do a tongue in cheek sculpture about this moment in history, even using the same purple velvet color as the king. The crown is too large and heavy to wear, symbolizing the impossible task of becoming a king, with all the privilege and burdens that come with it. I also created a staff to be displayed alongside it. It is made from Welded hand hammered steel.
